NIS News - What's New
NIS 2003-1:
A revised version of the NIS Public Use Data and their documentation,
was released in September 2007. These data, codebooks, contents,
picklists replace the original January 2006 version. This version contains
the following main revisions:
- a) State variables were regrouped. The new classification can
be found in the Picklists file.
- b) Addition of variable Current Country of Respondent at Time
of Interview-modif (COUNTRYmo).
- c) The following countries: Peru (code=163), Colombia (code=47),
and United States (code=218) were separately identified in the
Country
variables
for the public
release.
- d) Language variables were regrouped. Languages such as French,
(code=5 ), Portuguese (code=3), Polish (code=13), etc.
were separately identified in the Language variables for the
public
release.
The new classification
can
be found in
the Picklists file.
- e) Variable Year of Birth (A7) is released as a continuous
variable in the public data.
- f) Variables that indicate which children
were eligible for which sections/assessments were included
in the public release (Section Roster).

NIS 2003-1 Section I Transfers: Spouse Callback Data. An extensive callback effort was made to collect information from the Spouse Interview, Section I dataset. An error in transferring variables from the completed main respondent interview to the newly-created spouse interview resulted in questions on transfers to and from sibligns not being asked if the spouse was the financial respondent.
